Holcomb Farm's Summer Day Farm Fun Camp provides a safe, nurturing environment which encourages children to explore the working farm, the natural world and their own creativity as well as meet new friends. Set on our 367-acre historic farm in West Granby, campers may hike our 10 miles of trails, study creatures of the Salmon Brook, help care for our farm animals or learn how to grow veggies! Each week features a different theme filled with adventure, learning and FUN!
Programs for children Grades 1 - 6 run from 9:00am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday. Nutritious snacks will be provided in the morning and afternoon, but full day campers should bring thier own lunch packed in paper or plastic bag with their name on it to enjoy during lunchtime (noon - 1:00pm). New this year, we will run three components each week: Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4, and Grades 5-6. Please sign up the camper for the grade he/she will be entering in the Fall of 2011.
June 27 - July 1: GREEN ACRES
There’s a whole world beneath our feet! Come explore it with us, as we grab our shovels and investigate the world below. We will learn about different types of soils, the animals that live in them, and how to work with the soils to grow food.
July 5 - 8: THE GREEN MACHINE (SHORT WEEK)
Sustainability is the name of the game and one is never too young to learn the various ways to reduce, reuse and recycle! We will spend this week on the farm learning all about how to appreciate and protect our natural world and the resources it provides us. We will build a new compost bin for the farm, make crafts from recycled materials and learn fun ways to make “greener” choices a part of everyday!
July 11 - 15: WATER WORLD
Can’t get enough of the water — join us for a week of watery adventures, awesome experiments and cool games all about water! Be sure to dress for some wet and wild activities as you learn about all the neat stuff water can do!
July 18 - 22 : KICK IT UP A NOTCH
This week is all about fitness, nutrition and being good to our bodies. Each morning will start with yoga to awaken our minds, bodies and spirits and prepare us for a fun-filled day. We will learn why and how to make healthy decisions about eating well and staying active by playing games, hiking and preparing healthy foods.
July 25 - 29: INTO THE WILD
Off we go into the wild, blue yonder! This week will require bravery, courage and a sense of adventure. Join us to learn basic survival skills such as how to read a compass, read maps and build shelters.
August 1 - 5: GO WITH THE FLOW
Where, oh where would we be without water? Come explore the wonders of water and the meet some of the creatures that live in its depths. We will learn the importance of water to our farm and the world while playing lots of water games.
August 8 - 12: FABULOUS FARMERS
Summer is a busy time at Holcomb Farm! Through a variety of activities, campers will learn what it takes to be a farmer. We will meet our farm animals and get our hands dirty planting and tending the crops. We will harvest some veggies and seeds and learn how to make them into tasty treat.
Cost: $250.00 per week per camper
Deposit of $50.00 per camper per week due upon registration to reserve your child's place.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you wish to withdraw your child from camp after you have paid in full, you must notify us, in writing, one month prior to the beginning of camp (June 27, 2011). You will recieve a full refund. If you withdraw within two weeks of the start of summer camp, 1/2 of your fee will be refunded. No refund will be given for reservations cancelled within 13 days of the start of summer camp.
