Link and Learn
A program that promotes learning and understanding.
Albert Einstein once said, “We still do not know one-thousandth of one percent of what nature has revealed to us.” The environment is a great teacher.
We’re proving that through our state-funded Link and Learn program, where K–6 students from rural, suburban, and urban environments come together to gain an appreciation of science and culture. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students of many backgrounds to gain scientific insight—on topics ranging from astronomy to Native Americans to magnets and electricity—while they build a better understanding of each other.

Participating K–5th grade students are paired with peers from other schools. They attend 3–4 programs together at Holcomb Farm or Elizabeth Park that directly relate to Connecticut state science standards and grade-appropriate curriculum. |
Open lines of communication |
In addition to face-to-face learning, students are encouraged to stay in touch with their partners throughout the school year via letter writing and e-mail. |
Opportunities for mentors
Fourth, fifth and sixth grade classes can also participate as mentors, by mentoring younger learners at Holcomb Farm. Older students are instructed in their classrooms by Holcomb Farm staff to learn their roles and subject matter before meeting their younger partners at the Farm. |

Link and Learn material is aligned with existing curricula and designed with input from teachers from participating school systems. |

Link and Learn is funded by a grant from the Connecticut Department of Education, and is based on a recommendation of the Granby Quality and Diversity Committee, as outlined in the Area Nine Regional Planning Report. |
